Australian Rules Football (Footy) - April - July, 2012
The boys have begun their winter sport. All 4 are playing Australian rules football AKA footy. They are all on different teams so we are meeting lots of new people. The bigs practice on Friday nights on the field across from GEPS. Their games are Saturdays or Sundays at any of the nearby towns. They play for the U11 and U13 Griffith Swans. The littles have their "Auskick" on Sunday mornings at 9:30. Colt plays for the Griffith Giants. They are one of 6 teams of young boys 6-10 years. They practice for 45 minutes and then play one of the other teams for 45 minutes. At the same time, Khye is learning skills and playing little games with the Rookies. There are about 30 of them. Footy is VERY big in Griffith and, both Cody and Kent, say it's their 2nd favorite sport after hockey. They have all really taken to it quickly!
Aussie Rules - Playoffs - Round 1 - August 4, 2012
Aussie Rules - Playoffs - Round 2 - August 12, 2012
Round two of the playoffs was held in Temora. Both the U11 and the U13 teams played against Leeton. It was a beautiful, hot day with exciting results! At the end of the 4th quarter, Kent's team was tied with Leeton 13-13. They played two 5 minute halves and won the game 19-13! Cody's team ALSO was tied with Leeton 34-34 at the end of 4 quarters. After their two 5 minute halves, the Swans won 48-34! WOW! Talk about an exciting finish!
Both Kent and Cody's teams will now go on to play in the Grand Final in Ardlethan against the Griffith Giants next Sunday.

Aussie Rules - Grand Final - August 19, 2012
The Grand Finals were held in Ardlethan. It was a very exciting day with games for U11, U13 and U15 footy and U11 and U13 netball. Of the 10 teams participating, 5 were from Griffith! Kent (U11) and Cody (U13) both played against the Griffith Giants.
A few days before the games, some of the parents gathered together to make banners for our three Swans clubs....just like American football! Cool! Each banner was different and the kids loved them all!
At the end of the day, the Giants proved to be just too much for the little Swans and we had to settle for second in each category. Kent and Cody were both very upset but I suspect is was more about finishing their last ever footy game as opposed to losing the Grand Final. You had an excellent season boys and you both played very well. We are proud of you both!

Presentation Day - September 15, 2012
The AFL and netball teams wrapped up their seasons on Saturday with presentations and a sausage sizzle. Dean won runner up for Best and Fairest. Kent won Most determined and Improved! Cody and Kent and their teammates were given sport bags as year end gifts. The most exciting part of the evening was a special presentation to the Jackson family! Cody and Kent's coaches presented them with their team jerseys which had been signed by all of their teammates! They are incredible keepsakes; thank you, John Dalton! That was very thoughtful!
