Cricket - October-December, 2012 ****Updated November 26****
In Canada, Howard plays fastball or hockey 2-4x/week. In Australia, he hasn't played any sports for 9.5 months! Our friend, Brian Irvin, has invited Howard to join his cricket team (sponsored by Lipton Tea....are they getting old??!). Because of Howard's damaged shoulder, we weren't sure if he would be able to play cricket but he sure wanted to give it a go!
Their first (4.5 hour!!) game was against a bunch of young guns and the Yenda Spitfires were easily defeated. On the upside, Howard was able to field the ball quickly but would run it in or would throw underhand. He also scored 5 runs at his first 'at bat'.
Looks like Saturday afternoon cricket is here to stay! Howard is enjoying the sport and the time with the team. Go Spitfires!
**Update** The Spitfires are having a tough season! They are currently 1-6. Howard was given a new cricket shirt and a bat for his birthday and he's really improved! He still has his own style of batting but it's working for him! Last weekend he had the second highest runs on his team! (Maybe that's why the Spitfires are at the bottome of the standings?! The Canadian is almost leading the runs???) Last weekend (Nov. 24) and this coming weekend (Nov. 30) has the Spitfires playing a day/nighter under the lights at the Exies 1 oval. Very professional and exciting with lots of fans. Good luck, Spitfires!
